I have a Fatboy M8 107 which pings in low gears up to 2k or so rpm under load.
It is stock plus SE "street cannons". I run premium fuel, 98 in AU.
When cruising up the mountains its particularly annoying.
My gut feeling is to retard the static timing 2 deg.
I have read through most of the relevant threads here. .
Can this be done on a M8?
cheers, Richard.

You'll need a tuner bod to do that I'd say I'd say . Just check your plug leads are seated before you do anything and maybe a buzz test as well , you know gas cap , floor boards, pipe covers that sort of thing.

thx for the reply, but its definately pinging. I ve already "fixed" the gas cap. lol.
So no ign pickup on a plate then?
If you are pinging constantly while using good gasoline, you need to sort out the underlying problem. Adjusting static timing, even if possible, would just be a bandaid. Carbon on the pistons might be something to check, or your source for fuel.
Riding under 2k rpm??? This ain't your granddaddy's knuckle-head...let that thing rev. You're doing more bad by lugging it than you would be running up to 4500 or 5000. Try down shifting a gear or two instead of worrying about timing. You want to baby it? Shift at 3500 and keep it above 2300 or so while cruising.
No, there is no static timing on m8's or TC's. The ECM know that the missing tooth is so many degrees after no 1 cylinder top dead center. MAP sensor tells the ECM what stroke it is on. So, in theory it should always be perfect. BUT with the tuning devices out there for the m8. There never is a reason to time it like an evo or distributor car. Timing changes are made in the calibration. Pulling timing like you want will pull power across the board when it sounds like your problem is a specific area only. An area I don't like to have load in myself.
If this is a stock engine. I would check plug gap. Make sure it's as at least .035 or tighter. You can even go down to .028 for experimental reason to see if ping goes away.
Cruising up the mountains the engine pings up to 2K under load...
You are lugging the engine.
