Thanks in advance for your input! Put a Thundermax on my 2016 Road King just under 500 miles ago. Cruising down the road, come to a stoplight, throttle closed, clutch in, brake to a stop and the idle stays at about 1300RPM for about 4 seconds before coming down to normal 890. Blip the throttle while stopped and it returns to normal immediately. One person on one of the Tmax forums on social media says that's normal. Another says it should go away once I put more miles on it. Anyone else encounter this issue? I've already talked with Tmax and first time they said it's most likely the vehicle speed sensor. Changed it and made no difference. Then they said the Tmax is programmed that way "to prevent the engine from stalling". I'm interested in what you long time Tmax users have experienced. Thanks!
Thanks, GalvTexGuy, that's exactly what it sounds like, the Harley OEM ETMS! Thundermax doesn't have that in their controller, thank you Jesus. I did a data collection with the rear wheel jacked up so I could run it in gear, then replayed the file and the rear cylinder was getting fuel and spark when it did it. Thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks, Cobra. My Harley dealer did the install and used Map #425 which is close to my bike setup. I used the Tmax automap function twice and it made no difference. Last night, I loaded map #438 which is also close to my setup and it made no difference. Thanks for the suggestion and letting me know your experience. I've got two folks who haven't ever had this issue, so it can't be built-in to the Tmax maps.
I don't have a FBW Tmax, but a IAC controlled ones for 109000 miles on a 07 egc and also had one on a 02 RK for 60000 miles. Both had gen IIs originally but the 07 egc has had a Gen III for about 60000 miles.. The gen III does idle a little high coming to a stop occasionally. I don't worry about it.
Thanks, Max Headflow. I've posed this question on 2 Harley forums and the Tmax Owner's Group on Facebook. I've gotten everything from "Mine has never done that" to "Need to get at least 1000 miles on it to adjust fully" to "That's normal, they all do it". So I'm going to get the 1000 miles and go from there. It's just annoying to spend $1K on something and have it sound like the ETMS is kicking in everytime I come to a stoplight. Annoying and embarrassing. Thanks again and ride safe!.
