Default Battery chargers and SERTs

When you are using the SERT you have to turnthe ignition on and that lights all the bike's lights. I've read that some members of the forum attach a battery charger when they're using the SERT just to be sure there is enough power to complete the programming. Question --when the ignition is on, the cigarette lighter socket is hot. Would there be a problem if I wired a cigarette lighter plug to the charger (with a connector), and connected the charger through the cigarette lighter socket while using the SERT? I don't think there is any type of diode between the battery and the socket, is there? Thanks. Dennis

I just pull the fuse for the lights if I'm going to leave the ignition switch on for more than acouple minutes. Downloading only takes about 30 seconds, so I wouldn't worry about the battery dying in that length of time.

I just finished using the "battery charger-- cigarette lighter socket" approachand everything seemed to do just fine. When the ignition is turned off, the charger is not putting out a charge. With the ignition on, the charger shows it's providing power to the system. Being so new to this stuff, I read that one of the major problems encountered when programming was lack of power to complete programming.I wanted to be extra safe. I now have a total of one sucessful programming under my belt. Thanks, Dennis
