I disagree that $350 is a 'high side' dyno cost; in fact IMO it's low side.
Now the SERT is (retail) $460 + $30 for the cables (which USED to come with it) so you're at $490. Then a minimum dyno of $350 and you're at $840; anything beyond stage I and I think you'll have more than $350 in the tune.
TMax retails for $870 and you get 21st century wide band Auto Tune to replace the 1976 Bosch 2 wire narrow band OEM technology.
1) You don't need cables if you aren't going to tune it -30.
2) A tune is a tune from the dealers around my area and they charge less than 300.00.
3) Again, what is your time worth?
I don't disagree that the TMax is a good product from what I know about it. However for the novice it is not cheaper or easier. When warranty problems come up the dealership will not diagnose the problem with the Tmax, see the thread "Bad Gas" in the touring section as an example.
Your mind is as incompleteas your thunder max tune is and (I don't care who you are either....just another INTERNET closed minded expert on nothing, with too much to say on everything, with limited experience....)

My last word here.
I think you should look in the mirror. The closed mind is yours. You want to hold on to the POS SERT so you can rape your clients with outrageous tuning times. And you have a closed mind to 21st centurywide band technology and accept from HD and promote in your own interestHDs implementation of25 year oldnarrow bandtechnology.
You're another one, you claim you have experience and anyone who disagrees has none.
Perhaps your right, I've said some things that weren't very nice and for that I owe you an apology. I've had a bad week and you where my outlet for my anger so for that I say thanks for letting me release all that was building up...I feel much better now.
hey doc, can you point me in the right direction please?
Have my sideshots with th sensors, heavy breather air filter, want to install my SERT;;; downloaded the CD, just not sure what map im installing?? hope its notto much of a dumbass question!!!
Thanks again for all the advice....very helpfull
There really isn't a map in there for the pipes your running.....what version of the SERT do you have, what model bike, and who makes the pipes? You can get a base map going but it will need to be tuned by a good tuner to get it right.
Wow.... joj.... Start off with this map.... #67 (176AE104)... That is the closest you have to establish a base map... Next step is to max out the Closed Loop Bias table(s) and set your Rev Limit to 6500 (No higher, "B" motors don't handle higher revs than that well, counter balancers and all can get out of sync)....And I see that you are using the "Heavy Breather".. if so, you will also need to increase your engine displacement by 10 inches.... that will help to compensate for the extra air being introduced into the combustion chamber... that 10 inches will fatten it up 1 AFR point, if you are using the SE Air Cleaner with the stock cover, leave the Tuning constants where they are.....
Depending on the baffles (if you could call them that, cheese graters is all they are), you will notice a pop on decel... if this becomes annoying, you need to seek out a knowledgeable SERT TRAINED TUNER....
Understand this, the SERT is a TOOL, which allows the operator to get into the ECM and manipulate the various data tables to optimize performance, power and rideability...
FWIW, at our shop, we charge $250 for a full tune, and our Winter special was purchase a SERT, get a free tune...
And if you need any references for me... I think Doc 1 will vouch for me, and I definitely will for his knowledge...
You made a good choice in retaining the stock ECM and o2's, and utilizing the SERT...
Ping Doc 1 or myself with questions, concerns, etc....
Thanks for the info, will be doing the install this weekend....think i understand i must download the basic map to begin with and then go back in and change the settings you mention?
i have quiet baffles with the exhaust..i imagine that will make a slight dif with the fine tuning?
well here goes ......
