Default EFI and Baffles

I've got a 2007 EFI Low rider with SE slipons I put on last year. I want to make it louder and sound better. Can i take the baffles out? I understand i need to remap the fuel and everyone i've talked to says the race tuner is better than a power commander. Would a HD dealer take my baffles out and set my tuner with that kind of setup or would i have to do it myself?

I will be the fist to give you the bad news. Take the baffles out of the SE pipes will make the engine run like crap. You are going to loose tons of power on a stock motor that is already low on power. If that is okay, then go for it. You can tune a Power Commander much easier than a SE Race Tuner for this type of a modification. If I were you I would take the baffles out and order some baffles fromBig CityThunderto replace them, their power baffle can give you just the needed back pressure to make it sound loud as hell and still have some power.

They have 2 baffles that would work for you that I am aware of, give them a call and they should be able to hook you up. Then you can have the bike dyno tuned to put a new map in the Power Commander.

Will your dealer do the tune. Probably with a baffle replacement, and maybe with no baffle at all, you will have to ask them. If thy have a dynojet dyno, and most thatI have been to do, it will be breeze to tune the PowerCommander, but you might find that your best local tuner works elsewhere, you will need to inquire in your area as to who the best tuner is fora Power Commander, expect to pay$300 to get a good tune done. Ask for an advanced tune, where they tune each cylinder as well as your timing for each cylinder. It will make ahuge difference in the way the bike runs.

Basically, mayanswer is. Don't run with no baffle, at least notlong term. Try a replacement baffle or new slip-ons. Then get an advanced tune peformed using your existing Power Commander, don't need aRace Tuner for this small of a change to the system, Race Tuner is a great tool, just way more than you need for your setup.Evenif you plan on doing more, the Power Commander can handle even stage II setups, like cams, heads, valves etc. Personally, if you go to something better, look at the closed loop systems first,Thumdermax is making a really nice closed loop system that will automatically retune your bike when you make changes toit, you are supposed to put a base map in that gets youclose and let it take it from there, butfor this type of change, it would be able to handle the baffles out and have it back to runnig great within 3 or 4runs of the engine, provided you go 15 minutes, turn it off for 1 minute and then start up and run again. It only adjust a certain amount in eachrun, must be a safety feature.

Okay, hope that helps. If not, just ignore me.

Removing the baffles or any change to the exhaust with a non EPA certified mod is federally punishable which most dealers are gettingvery sensitive to, getting more difficult every day finding one who is not. I would contact a dealer to find out and if they will not, ask them if they will tune it if it is not EPA compliant.

Yes this does help. Just a lot to take in thats all. It looks like I may just replace the entire exhaust. Do you have any recommendations? I've been looking atvance and hines and rinehart exhaust. Ithink they'recalled speedsters or something like that. what do you think?

+1 but I would get a SERT in case you want to have it dyno tuned later. The V&H pipes are really nice but big $$ compared to the BCT baffles.

You don't have to have a SERT to get a dyno tune performed, actually the Power Commander is better suited for the this type of a modification. You can even ask any tuner, a PC will take 1 hour to do, a SERT will take 2 to 3 hours to tune in new pipes. Plus he already has a Power Commander, didn't he say that, so why buy a SERT? I knowthe SERThas more capabilities, but he doesn'tneed them for a simple change like this. With his existing Power Commander he has the ability to tune the fuel on each cylinder seperately. As well as the timing on each cylinder again, individualy. That is all he will need with new pipes. IfI am incorrect on this fact, well, he has a whole host of options. Actually if you buy Vane and Hines, they can ship you one of theirtuners already set for the new pipes.

I haven't heard the Cobra pipes you are talking about, but Cobra pipes generally are quite loud.

True, there are a lot of options. But the SERT has wide range of capabilities. It has the ability to tune both cylinders seperately which is really how to get the most performance out of your Vtwin. You need a really good tuner to do this but once you get it dialed in you will be very satisfied with the way the bike runs. JMHO
