Help picking TMAX map
I have an 08 Dyna Street Bob.
For now, the only change over stock is V&H Short Shot Staggereds.
Then, when it arrives, I will install a Doherty PowerPACC.
So, could you please recommend which map I should load for now, and which one I should load when I have the new air cleaner on.
Also, will having or not having the Quiet Baffles in my exhaust matter? I might install it over the summer.
Thanks in advance!
The instructions that come with the unit will walk you through the map selection process, based on your TYPE of pipe and TYPE of AC, etc etc. Don't get too hung up on finding an exact match of components in terms of brand name - its 2-into-2 vs 2-into-1, and stock cam vs. aftermarket, or stock filter vs. free flowing filter that you worry about.
You'll get a "Installation Manual" on paper. The "Tuning" Manual will be on the CD. READ THEM BOTH! And at least twice.
This is straight from the tuning manual:
Base Map âKey Elementsâ Search for an appropriate map by the following âKey Elementsâ, in order of importance:
a) Throttle Body / Injector Size & Style
- Note that certain applications use an 8 degree spray pattern, and others use a 25 degree spray pattern.
b) Engine Displacement
- Bore & Stroke. A correct match to the engineâs stroke is far more important that an exact match of engine displacement. For example, a 2007 96ci engine would respond better to a 103ci map than a 2003 95ci map (modified factory 88ci engine â shorter stroke).
c) Exhaust System Design
â If an exact match does not appear in the Base Map library, select the Base Map with the closest style of exhaust system. Even if your brand is not an option, choosing the closest style will yield th e best results. Group your exhaust system in one of the following three categories:
i. Dual Exhaust
â 100% separate exhaust pipes, short or long.
ii. 2 into 1 Collector
â both cylinder head pipes converge into one.
iii. Factory style head pipe with crossover
â dual exhaust systems with a cross over pipe that connects the front and rear exhaust pipes.
One last thing - after you install it and button everything back up together, make sure all the wires from the TMax are in a safe spot and don't get pinched by the mounting bolt of the electrical caddy when installed back onto the frame. You might find yourself without any power to the Autotune module. Don't ask me how I know this.
