New 08 Nighter dead electrical sometimes - and what's this blinking key icon??
08 XL1200N (month old), won't start, battery reads 7 VDC. Jumping it does NOT work... as soon as fuel pump is primed and I hit start, 1/2 second later all electric is drained and everything shuts off.
Battery or charging system... anything else obvious I should check?
RE: New 08 Nighter dead electrical sometimes - and what's this blinki
Correction: jumping it DOES NOT work. Why can't I jump it? Who knows. Hear click-click and half second later all electric dies.
Well, bike is back at the dealer, hopefully getting electrical problem fixed. Service guy says another 08 nightster just had a similar problem and they've gone through 4 batteries with it (doesn't give me a good feeling)...
Anyway, hope to get it back shortly, and bent over to have dealer install mini apes as long as they had it there. Cha-ching!

I have the same problem. I just bought the thing a little less then 2 weeks ago. I am calling the dealership today. I had a buddy over last night went to start it up and as soon as I hit start it died. I was poking around on it last night and was able to get it to power up by moving it around a little bit but I still could not get it to start and as soon as I tried to hit start it would power down completely again.

Let me know what you find out.
Followup... haven't visited this thread in a while... but when I got it back from dealer it was fine ever since. At least for another month at which point I ended up trading it in for a Street Bob! D'Oh!
They said it was a bad relay. Ended up selling the bike private sale to someone. I miss it; it was a great bike, but the Street Bob is sweet.
