2007 softail pinging.
Sorry to those who replied to previous post, we had a family emergency and have'nt been able to reply.
Our 2007 injected night train started pinging a couple of weeks ago. It will ping when I roll into it hard in 3rd gear starting about 2500 rpm's. In the morning riding to work when it is cooler it is not nearly as bad, but comming home when the motor is nice and hot its more noticeable. The bike has the stage 1 download, sreamin eagle air box kit, and vance and hines staggered short shots. I have read about possible causes such as a bad map sensor, or a bad crank position sensor, bad gas, weak plugs, wires, etc.We have been through a couple tank fulls of gas. How can you check the map sensor or crank sensor? Is there a way to check timing with a timing light, to eliminate possible crank sensor? Any suggestions will be appreciated!

I have a rock stock 2007 Sportster that rattled like a can of marbles on 93 fuel at 1/2 throttle or more any time the air temp was 90 or more. The www.nightrider.com ViEDs set to 14 AFR flat cured it.

Well, by the service manual:
1. Fuel octane rating too low
2. Faulty spark plug
3. Incorrect spark plug for kind of service
4. Excessive carbon deposit on piston head or in combustion chamber
5. Ignition timing advanced due to faulty sensor (MAP and/or CKP)
Now personally, with that last one, I'm inclined to think you're going to have more problems than simply pinging at 2500 rpms at wot.
