I'm having a problem with my cruise control. It will not engage. I can turn it on, get a red light, then a green light when I toggle the switch to the set position bus as soon as I let go of the throttle it will roll back to idle and give me the red light.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I would thing that if you get a steady green light the system is working.
I had to replaced the switch in the right switch housing. It would engage than it would increase and decrease all over the place and not maintain speed. I replaced the switch and it works great. Check the switch. It's not that expensive to replace. You need to know how to solder but that's about all the expertise you need.
The first thing you need to do is to check your brake light. If the brake light switch goes bad it takes out your cruise control too. Mine went out at about 500 miles on my 2000 Ultra.
Terry, thats the first thing I did. Pull hand lever light goes on, let go light goes off. Same thing with rear brake. I would thing if that were the problem I would never get a green light. If I hold the throttle the green light will stay on all day but if I let go it rolls off until it finely gets to idle and disengages as it should on a roll off.
They are right, check your brake light. If you have removed the switch housing to replace caps or something then there is a copper stay (think wedge) that keeps pressure on the brake light switch. If it has slipped or is missing it will allow the brake light to come on and kill your cruise.

My Cruise does the same thing if I release it to quick.
If I hold the throttle until the cruise engages then gently
release the pressure it works fine.
Hope this helps
Ya I tried that to. No help! guess I'll just have to bit the bullet and take it into the stealer.
