Top priority shovelhead. Calling a few more dealers today to see what they tell me. My bike isn't running bad but the plugs are a little white. I guess if my bike ran like crap I'd have a little more room to argue but seeing as it runs pretty good with hardly a sound on decel it's hard to bitch to much.
ok....after all the B.S. I'm convinced now that everyone is an expert and no one can agree on what or how these bikes should be tuned. One dealer says can't do that the next dealer says Harley recommends that. I give up. My bike has seen a dealers service dept for the last time. It's time to take control and take matters into my own hands and ultimately control my own bikes future. So with that being said I ordered a PCIIIusb from fuelmotousa.com for 280 bucks to the door. It will come preprogrammed for my bike and options I have installed. I'm sure it won't be perfect but it'll at least get it close to where I can dail in on my own or take it to a independant shops dyno machine or steal some maps from you guys. hehe
Thanks for all the info that helped me make this important decision. My apologies to anyone I offended slamming fuel managers and promoting the HD download. I was wrong and I was lied to by my dealer.
I have an 06 dyna with stage 1download, SEAC and SEII slip ons. Bike ran like crap, (hard starting, stalling and major popping between gears and on decel. Finally had them change injectors to 25deg and told them about the "race" download for 1450 dyna with my mods. Bike now runs better, with minimal pop on decel, athough it has stalled once after a cough, within the last hundred miles. My question is twofold. The "cartridge" that shovelhead bob mentions...is that a one time per bike download, similar to the Stage 1 or is it a cartridge ordered by the dealer for multiple downloads to correct the problems after installation of the 25 deg injectors. Secondly, how do I find out for sure which download they actually used...as trust is wearing thin here. (took two trys before they agreed to change the injectors). Does harley cover the cost of this new download as a fix for the 8deg injector issues? I would appreciate any help here as it is going to another dealer for sure, for the 1000 mi. service next week.
Shovelhead Bob, Can you tell me if there is a difference between an 05 and a 06 bagger as far as injectors and ECM is concerned? Rocket scientist in the service department at the stealership installed a 06 map on my 05 bike and now it is hard to start and damn near stalls while taking off form a stop.
06 map in an 05 bike is a recipe for disaster.....
Different induction modules completely......
05 has a 40 mm, 06 has a 46.....
Completely different injectors as well.....
mtb017....
Cartridges are a 1 time use...
Look at your invoice, the PN "should" be there....
If you had the injectors swapped out, for warrenty, HD will cover the cost of the download that your bike needs at that time.... Legal or Race.....
BlueDeuce....
I am sorry for the way that you got treated... not all dealers are like that, I know.. That is why I choose to work where I do, and bypass the 4 other dealers...
Thanks shovelhead but it's not your fault. I just have a crappy service dept. There are a few dealers that spoke the truth to me just not the one I bought my bike from.
I called MOCO and they told me that the stage1 d/l legal and race is only designed to work with HD pipes. After market pipes require the use of a SERT or PCIII which will limit your warranty. When I asked about the warranty MOCO said that it would not void my warranty completely but if parts on the bike were ruined by anything to do with the PCIII or aftermarket pipes they would not be covered. That to me includes the ECU, injectors, anything electrical, and the engine. They didn't come right out and say that but since the PCIII and pipes all have something to do with the parts I mentioned they will not be covered under warranty.
So, the PCIII will be here on tuesday and I'll install that and leave the pythons on and hope nothing goes wrong for the next two years. If I have a warranty issue then the stock pipes will go back on and the PCIII will be removed and the bike taken in for the work. With stock pipes SE A/C and stage1 d/l I am running what HD wants me too to keep my warranty in tact. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!!!!
Bob, what kinds of reciepts to I need for the 5000 and 10000 mile service if I do the work myself so MOCO will still honor the warranty. Or should I just take off the pipes and PC and bring it in for that?
I had the 25 injectors installed and they used the 34353-06 race flash. I have the SE A/C and SE slipons (98Bs). Does anyone what the difference is between this and the 34352-06 other than it being newer?
Ok guys... A little help here as well. Been reading this thread and have come to realize this forum, and alot of you harley mechanics rock for helping us less educated ones out here. thanks alot.
Heres my delima. I have a 06 FLSTI that is running like crap. Called dealer, they said they would go ahead and order the new injectors. I told him I had a set of VH Staggered BigShots, a Arlen Ness Big Sucker AC, and a VH Fuel Pak sitting here ready to put on. He told me NOT to put anything on the bike as he needed it stock to do the injector swap to make sure its right.
Now , is this the best route to go? Take to dealer completely stock, get injector swap (will they do a new download too?) , THEN bring it home and put all the pipes, AC, and Fuel Pak on? Or...would I gain anything from finding a dealer that will do it after the mods and such? Would a Stage 1 module help me any if I am going to do a fuel pak and stuff anyways? What do you think Shovelhead Bob?
Thanks alot guys...
I had the SE A/C and SE Pro Performance slip ons installed with the stage 1 download on my 06 FLHRCI. I didn't have any idea what the download should have been. After reading here, I learned it was the Non-race download, but understand it should have been the race version.
The work was done at the 1 k service, and within a few hundred miles, it was coughing and spitting while in the clutch at slow speeds. I took it back to the dealer for them to look at it after the bike had 3500 miles. The dealer said another download was needed, in a cartridge type. Got the bike back and it ran better at slow speeds. But after a few hundred miles, it was starting to cough again. Also, there appearantly is a fault code they need to clear. The security system (key symbol??) comes back on for a moment, then goes back off when starting the bike. Didn't get anypaperwork when the second download was installed, not sure what PN download they put in the second go-round.
Had enough of this...ording a PCIII and plan to get it dyno'd. I just worry about getting that slow to start problem some folks have with the PCIII.
are you using the recommended set up se a/c and se pro performance muffler and what did your dealer charge for the flash?
Barry
I had the bike flashed with the race cartridge when I had the CVO injectors installed. The dealer argued with me a bit over the "street legal" download vs. the "race" download. I simply showed them the service bulliten which listed the configurations and applicable downloads. Before the CVO's, I was running 8* injectors with the "street legal" stage one. The bike ran strong above 2-3,000 rpm, but would sputter and pop during low speed operation. It ran very rough and uneven when riding slow (10-30 mph), but pulled better with a passanger than when running solo.
I haven't seen a huge difference in performance or milage with the "race" download, however the bike does run considerably smoother and cooler. I don't use a temp gauge, but I no longer have an issue with the oil tank heat burning the inside of my leg. It still feels warm, just not HOT.
Gunny,
You seem to be an advocate of the HD downloads. I chose to go this route because I feel like installing an aftermarket device is nothing more than a bandaid. I have serveral friends running PCIII's that have had nothing but problems. One RK just fried his second ECM. His tech installed the Terry components TV III in open loop (no 02 sensors) and is having problems getting the bike set up right. I recommended they install the 02 sensors and run it in closed loop mode. Any ideas?
