Guys..
I got a 2006 FLSTI Heritage Softail(the base one..not classic) with fuel injection. I now have 550 miles on it. I have noticed that around town during the hot day, it will "pop" through the air cleaner and die on me when i take off at a light. Its only happened a few times, but am wondering whats up. I live in Indiana at 750 ft elevation, and it has been in the 80's and 90's. I am getting 41 MPG. Is this just where its new and choked down with emmissions, or ? I read something about injector problems...like 6 or 8 degree and some 25 degree ones? How can i tell what I have?
I bought a set of VH Big Shot staggered pipes today, as well as an Arlen Ness big Sucker air cleaner, and a VH FuelPak. Will this work ok with my setup IF thats all I plan on doing to the motor? Wondering if I should have spent the extra and got a PC or Sert. Was trying to only spend no more than necessary to get some good sound and a little better performance. Anyone dyno'd a setup like mine?
Thanks guys. This forum is awesome for us newbies!
If you look under the gas tank, between the jugs you will see the side of one of the injectors and there will be a part number in white print on the side. The part number for the 8 degree ones is 27625-06 and the 25 degree ones are 27709-06A and should have 25DEG on the side. The Harley tech service bulletin is M-1185. I had the 8 degree ones changed out and all those symptoms went away. Good luck.
Thanks dude. Will check and see what i have. If I have the small ones, if I call the dealer and explain what it is doing, will they change them out under warranty or what will it cost me? Will it take care of the popping and dieing only or will it run better otherwise as well? Thanks again.
Mine did the job under warranty.....N/C.....give them the TSB # and they can look it up on their HD Net but I'm sure they have heard of it by now. There should be no charge at all. It will run much better.

I just went (since the bikes in a buddies garage ) and checked the injectors.. I have the regular ones that end in part number -06 and not the new part number ending in -06A . Maybe thats why it has been running so aweful. I bought a new 99 Softail Custom in late 1998 and although it was carb...it seemed to run alot stronger than this new bike.
Now, heres my delima now.. I have the VH Staggered and Arlen Ness air cleaner along with a FuelPak already ordered.. Maybe I better wait and get this injector thing fixed BEFORE I do anything to it. I have 550 miles...I could ride a bunch over the next few days and get me 1000 and have it all done then I guess. I may call them tommorrow and maybe I can get it in BEFORE the 1000 mile checkup so i can then go ahead and get the pipes and all on. Sucks you have to go through this on a new Harley just to get them to run and sound right..
Also....FLSTCI nut.. Pipes arent done yet. I am going to install all of it myself to save some money. I am in North Vernon, Indiana... south of Columbus. Where are you?
Thanks again guys.
if you dont have any modifications to the bike and its running like you say then your dealer better damn well replace those injectors. be nice but dont take no for an answer. dont try and let them talk you into tuning it out either. cause if you ever go back stock=problem still there. there shouldnt be any problem getting the new ones. the dealer im going to has done quite a few and they said it takes them about 40-50 minutes to replace them. get it done. if your dealer has a problem doing this talk to a manager if there is still a problem call another dealer close and tell them your situation like i did. they will replace them. do not put your goodies on until they are replaced.

I had my dealer do the 25 degree injectors, install all my stage 1 parts and sert and dyno the bike all at the 1,000 miles service...one stop shopping.......done!! Now I just want to ride the damn thing
I've had the same symptoms as you and just had the bike to Bud's in Evansville. They are changing the injectors for me at no charge whatsoever. I went there armed with the Service Bulletin about the problem, but I didn't even have to bring the subject up. I've dealt with them for a few years and they are pretty good people there. It is definitely a warranty issue that at least this dealer is aware of.
To my amazement, I called my local deal today as well. Manns HD in Columbus Indiana. I told the service manager my problems and that I heard of an injector problem and bulleting M1185. He agreed, acted amazed that I was so informed on it, and asked if I could look at mine and tell him what number it is. I said I have the -06 injectors...not the -06A. He said I needed the new ones, and he would go ahead and order them today. They will call me when they come in(about a week) and then he will squeeze me into the scedule somewhere for an hour. He said for me NOT to put on my pipes , air cleaner, OR Vance and Hines Fuel Pak until after then. He said Harley wouldnt cover anything with the ECm after I do this to the bike, so I need to get the injectors taken care of first. Sounded like BS...but at least there wasnt ANY hassle about the injectors.
Sad part is I have to ride this turd for another week or two with out my pipes and goodies that will be here tommorrow. This stock setup is killing me.
