According to my voltmeter I'm getting 14V w/ the lights off & 13V with the headlight on. Occassionally I haven't been able to start the bike after riding ~1 hour & then leaving it for 9 hours (i.e., riding to work). The voltage reading then is ~ 10 - 11V. It starts right up with a jump. Another issue is that the directionals cause the voltage to flucuate from 9 - 14V - this has always happened, but lately the range (i.e., 9 - 14V) seems greater than before. The battery is < 1 year old & is always on a charger (except, of course, when it's sitting at work). I've got to go through to clean all the ground contacts, but any other ideas would be appreciated (otherwise it's off to the dealer & I really don't want that).

At idle voltage will bounce back and forth with directionals on. It does sound like a bad battery. Could you borrow a known good one from a friend or buy one with a liberal return policy and run that for a wek and see what happens, it should not discharge while at work.
