Default Accessory Switch

As with most EG's over the last 10 years or so there is an accessory switch on the fairing panel along with the cruise control master switch, the speaker switch and the spotlight switch. I wanted to connect something to that switch if for no other reason than to make it functional.....annoying to have switches that don't operate something.

So, I asked around at the local Harley dealership and was told that there was a plug under the seat in front of the battery that was connected to that accessory switch on the fairing's lower panel. It was also suggested that I get the Y adapter harness to turn that single plug to a double plug for future wonderful accessories. I did as suggested and also bought a "supplemental 12Volt power point" to attach to one of these two plugs on the Y adapter in order to begin my adventure with accessory switch funtionality....oh joy. Well, it turns out that the additional cigarette type power outlet that I installed in the trunk works fine but it doesn't matter if the panel's accessory switch is on or not. If the main ignition/lock switch is in the "Ignition" position or in the "accessory" position then the power outlet in the trunk is on and it has power regardless of the Accessory switch position on the panel.

What's up with that? How do I connect something to that accessory switch on the fairings lower panel? I noticed there are two other plugs under the seat in front of the battery that are completely different from each other and different than the plug I used for the power outlet. Maybe one of those is connected to the accessory switch?

From what I understand is there is one wire hot all the time and then the switch does the other. Check it with a volt gauge or test light

Next time I'm under the seat I'll do as you suggest and put a multi-tester on all the plugs I can find and maybe discover something that is affected by the accessory switch. Thanks.

Sounds like the plug under the seat is hooked to the ACCessories position on the Ignition switch and is completely different than the accessories switch located on the console. LoL

This thread caught my attention as I too want something connected to the console ACC switch that makes sense. I was thinking the heated vest take-off's or something. . . I am thinking of a ZUMO so perhaps that will be the perfect choice.

What have others connected to the console ACC switch I wonder?

Some things could have changed over the model years, but usually....there is a 4-prong Deutsch connector under the seat in front of the battery that has a rubber plug in it. It normally has:

1 pin hot (battery voltage) with the ignition on
1 pin ground all the time
1 pin brake light
1 pin that is "switched" to battery voltage with that dashboard flip switch.

I have an auxiliary fuel tank on mine and I use this switched connection fed from the dashboard switch to turn my electric fuel pump on and off. You don't have to purchase the mating plug from Harley. You can purchase a 4-pin Deutsch connector off places like e-bay and the lead pins for connection are provided with the plug. They are extremely easy to take apart and rearrange the leads any way you want to or make-up your own leads to operate what you want to.
