Angry thundermax O2 problem

I was helping a friend set up his thundermax w/autotune and we keep seeing high afr's on the rear cyl.(18-19 range). This is showing up when rpm's are droping to idle. The O2's on my thundermax w/at. are sq.to the ex.pipe, his rear 02 was put in with a angle bung and the sensor end facing the cylinder head.My question is what problems if any will 02 placment/angle cause?
Any ideas anybody
Thanks Paul

The way I understand it is that they should be just about 90 deg to the pipe. I could be wrong here but everyone I've seen factory installed is just about that. When installed at an angle they are most times not in the exaust stream far enough to work correctly

Factory sensors are at a angle.

I suspect an exhaust leak at the gasket in the head port.

Are you getting deceleration popping?

We have not rode it yet,we are removing the angle bung and puting it in @ 90 deg to the pipe. When I put mine in I did them @90 and never had any problems like this so I told him "lets try this first and at least we will know".It just looks like it would be the problem, rear afr's all out of wack and that 02 sensor is the one facing INTO the ex.flow.Im hoping he just made one of those "who knew"screw ups.We will be trying it @90 deg. and that being the only change and seeing the change. All the ones I have seen at a angle are with the flow(sensor in the pipe facing the open air end of the pipe)maybe the sensor is seeing too high of heat?I looked all over the net. and you would think someone would have a "DONT DO THIS" someware.Myabe we all can learn something.I feel like a moron for I done a lot top/pro fuel engine work for Chris Streeter (lakeerie racing pro fuel) and cant answer this question.I will keep all informed or the outcome. Thanks Paul

PS: I scoped all around the port and there is no ex.leak.Just to put that thought to rest. Thanks Paul
