Default Speedo issues

I recently replaced the guts of my transmission after an unfortunate highway happening. I got a hot deal on all the innards so I went for it. Problem is, my bike is a 95 and the new gears are out of an 05. Everything was the same size and lined up, only problem is that the pitch of the teeth on all of the gears is much finer, so the speedo sensor is reading that im moving much faster than I really am. Anyone know how I could fix this without putting the origional first gear back in?

You could change speedometers. Many aftermarket ones can be calibrated, but I don't believe the stock one can be. Basically you set how many pulses per mile. An electronic speedometer counts pulses and converts that to a voltage to deflect the needle. With EFI the ECM counts those pulses then reports it digitally to the speedometer. A speedo from a bike that transmission is for should show the right speed assuming it's counting teeth on the same gear. My '08 reads 4th.

I don't know. It might take hooking it to the digital technician. The manuals might say or it might be a tightly held secret only revelled to dealerships. It might not even be possible. Well, it's possible, you can build a circuit to do it if nothing else. If it can't be calibrated then there's a good chance someone built one and said, hey, this is handy, I could sell this.

PS: Speaking of which Dakota Digital sells just such a device.
