08 Heritage Battery Problem?
Last night took a 250 mile trip. Leaving out after topping off, I noticed it had a hard start...not the usual powerful turnover, but a bit of a hesitation on the compression stoke (so to speak) then cranked right up. Like a weak battery would do, not out of juice, but not having that deep cycle power. This happened each time I started the bike during the evening, but it would start and run fine.
Coming home down the interstate, my lights started dimming. I would notice it in the headlight. It would dim sharply, about 40%, then come back up to full bright in about 2 seconds. I could count to 6 before it would dim again, take 2 seconds to brighten up....then dim again. It would do this rhythmically, over and over....but then would stop for a while, maybe 15 minutes before starting this again.
Also, and it only did this once....after filling up and getting back on the interstate, the bike suddenly shut off and went completely dark, for like a half second. It jumped and felt like the engine missed or something, it happened so fast. I looked down at the speedo and it had gone to zero and was on it's way back to 70. Never did it again.
Through all of this, the bike runs strong, just like normal.
So, could a bad battery, or one going bad be the culprit here? I've seen bad batteries do some strange stuff in newer cars with all the electronics and computer.
