I have a 1998 Heritage Softail. It has a new battery and has been on a tender when I'm not riding it. The other morning I jump on my bike and ride roughly 60 miles, no problem. I park it for about 6 hours, jump on it to head home and it starts right up. About 10 miles into my ride the lights dim, speedometer drops to 0, the bike backfires, then dies.
Will not fire back up, a passerby stops and gives me a jump with no luck so we keep the cables connected for a while. That worked because the bike fired back up and I was able to drive it to a friends house nearby.
The bike sat for about 2 days, until I got a friends truck to pick it up. The bike fired right up! Unfortunately I don't trust it because this is twice that it happened.
Is it the voltage regulator, stator, or both?? Any help would be appreciated.
