I need to replace the original starter on my 2008 FXDC because it has crapped the bed on me. I was looking at simply replacing it with another stock one, but I also have plans to do some motor work in the near or far future, and I suspect I will need a higher output starter. I am considering purchasing a starter from at 2008 Screaming Eagle Dyna. The specs call it a "high output" starter. My main question is will it be a simple exact replacement for my stock starter, or might there be a difference as it relates to how it mounts up? I can get the SE Dyna starter for only about $30 more than a stock starter for my bike.
I will also take any thoughts on alternatives to simply putting another HD starter on my bike. The main reason I am leaning towards an HD is because I can get it a fair bit cheaper from Zanotti's than an aftermarket starter.
Take a long look at starters, as we can pay 3 times as much, or more, for the most expensive. Most of them look the same! I am going to get one for my 1990 bike off ebay, which is much cheaper than anywhere else I can find, for a brand new one. They are available rated at roughly 1.4kW, 1.7kW and 2.0kW.
