If you follow the wiring diagrams and read the tests you can do them by selecting the correct wire you don't need a breakout box it just makes it quicker for a tech at the dealer.
I do all my testing at home with a good quality multimeter.

Finally had a chance to do test today and yes it was the CKP. I want to thank you for your input. I've picked up a bit a knowledge.
