Hi All - i just bought a 1990 FLTC and i love it! While riding today the radio would go on and off, tach jumping alot, volt meter drop to zero when brake applied, and then the bike died! Okay, i had my son bring me a new battery, but when i went to install it - the terminals welded themself to the battery. yes, i checked and did not cross them up. Took bike home and used my charger just to see if everything would work. Turned it on and it pipped the circuit in the garage. Can anyone help me, please!
Take your fairing apart and look for corroded wires and shorts. Follow the battery cables to their destinations too. You may have broken insulation on your Positive cable and it's shorting on something.
You have what sounds like a serious short. These sorts of problem are usually mechanical, by which I mean something in your electrical system has either broken, or chafed through. A further possibility is a corroded ground point has stopped conducting, so your electrickery has taken a short-cut somewhere.
The only way ahead is to carefully and thoroughly work your way around the wiring inspecting connections and connectors. If you have a multi-meter and can use it, check continuity. It will help greatly to have the factory service manual and wiring diagrams.
