battery????
hey guys,
i am new to this and from reading some of the post, this is a great place. ill start by thanking you all in advance for any help you can give me.
i have went threw the post of bad batteries because i am haveing a bit of the same problem. i have an 06 fxst/i. i havent run it for about a month because its been cold out. i went to start it and the battery was dead. went to jump start it and it would turn and turn but not fire up. i checked for spark and got maybe one little spark but not even close to enough. both plugs.
after it sat with cables hooked up for maybe 20 min, it back fired and started right up. i let it run for about 5 min and turned it off. went to start it again and it wouldnt even turn over.
i had a guy tell me that with the efi bikes, if it dosent have a full charge, it will not spark enough, something o do the the pc. i also have a powercommander hooked up. is this true?
im not all that good with electrical stuff. i just thought with a new bike, the battery should still be good. would you all recomend a new battery.
back in january i had to jump it as well but road it all day and never had a problem but im thinking that i had it up over 2000 rpms most of the day. again any help would be great.

Check the battery first and determine the voltage and the CCA. You should determine what made the battery go dead in the first place.
You don't want to put a new battery on and to only find out that the charging system was not working. Granted, your battery could have just died at an early age for no apparent reason.
And anytime a new battery is ever replaced, ALWAYS check the electrical system. Make sure the new battery is charging and everything is tight.

see, thats why i asked you guys, always goodanswears. i think what killed it was that i dont have a place to put it for the winter so i have it at a rent a storage place. a little 5 /8 space. i also turned the alrm on and it sat from october to january, when i went in january to start it up i had to charge it just to get the alarm. is there an easy way to check the charging system when i get a new battery? thanks again guys
