2007 RK SE Air, Supertrapp 2in to1 TTs Mastertune...Bike pinged when ambient temperature was above 90* had it dyno tuned, still pinged.. noticed tuner didn't change timing from CPZ176 map... reduced timing along with Spark temperature table ... solved ping...Cant find stock timing map to compare and was wondering if timing is ok where penciled in..also noticed by reducing timing in pencil area valve train noise was reduced..last question is about the max timing, is 41 degree at or above 3000 RPM too much?, I hear about 36* is enough and 41-47* is for emissions??? whadaya think..
If you have removed ignition timing in the rpm/map ranges that are experiencing pinging then you are good. i'll assume you came up with these cells based on looking at recordings of your runs indicating that the ECM is showing it has initiated knock retard.
I tuned my bike using my SEPST. However, before making any timing adjustments I dialed in the VE tables. At this point I increased the AFR in the RPM/MAP ranges where I accelerate hard or the bike is under heavy load. I changed them to 12.5:1 to make the most power. The remaining cells (cruising ranges) I left alone to operate in closed loop mode @ 14.7:1 for fuel efficiency. I then went and increased the timing across the board until I noticed knock retard being initiated by the ECM in various RPM/Map cells. I then reduced timing in these cells a couple of degrees at a time until it went away. This is the most your bike can handle based on the load it is under and ambient temp etc.
As for the 41 degrees question I doubt that the engine would handle any more than this unless you have changed the cam and have lots of overlap that you need to compensate for at lower RPMS.
