This is all new to me and I could use some help. This is my first Harley, had Hondas and Yamaha. All of them had carbs and the adjustments were very simple.
Earlier this year I bought an 06 fat boy with FI and the 88 motor. V&H big shots, V&H fuel pak, & big sucker AC. I bought the bike used from a private party. He installed these items on the bike. The bike was running doggy (acted like it was rich), and it sucked gas. I called the guy I bought it from and asked what program he had on the fuel pak. He said it was the standard and not the program for stage one. Although he thinks the bike had the stage 1 download from HD. He lived in the mountains in WV and thought the bike ran OK so he did not monkey with it. I did not like the way it was running and it was getting about 32-36 mpg. So for giggles I tried the stage on programming on the fuel pak and Darn.... It runs like a scalded dog.
I am kind of concerned though if the bike might be running a little lean because I do not know whether it truly has the stage 1 download without taking it in to HD & I do not know Harley at all, but I am learning.
Is there any way I can tell if it has a stage 1 download without taking it in to the dealer? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Just throwing it out there the stage one download raises the rev limiter. If you have a tach and can get it 6200 rpm I think it is without the rev limiter hitting then you probably do. I would search on here to see what the stock rev limit is. I cant remember off the top of my head.
Other than that you will probably have to go to a dealer.
Treat it as if it doesn't have the stage 1 dealer map. Take a look at the plugs to see if you're rich or lean. The only way to truly dial it in is on a dyno with an operator that knows what he's doing.
