techie challenge
starter stays engaged after starter button is pressedon old shovelhead until - removed from battery. It should be wired right according to hd schematic. removed spring from inside primary for the solenoid and it worked. when spring replaced it didnt work.any suggestions aor answers for this problem.

If you have low voltage from your battery, the plunger inside the solenoid can move
slower than it should, allowing the washer which makes contact between the two large
lugs on the soleniod (battery to starter motor) to arc and weld itself to the lugs.
Take apart the solenoid and inspect the washer for pitting or weld marks. Flip it over
if you want to chance it. HD changed the washer to a different material at some point.
