I'm thinking of putting electronic ignition system on by 78 ironhead . Not sure which direction to go or what to get hoping y'all could you help me with some feedback.
Thanks
that ignition is all i use in the shop today BUT the coil in the kit is beyond junk use a dyna as a choice it needs to be 3 OHMs - your original coil is 3 OHMs stock but test it with a meter as things have a way of being incorrect when an issue happens
if you had points its a 5 OHMs coil just so you know and you cant use that one
thanks for te info i went to the ebay site Jirch i see i can pick up a wiring harness aswell. I'm hoping to have evrything I need order soon and my baby back on the road
I have heard stories about the Ultima ignition coil being unreliable, but that is not my experience. I have seen only one case on the XLForum IronHead forum. Myself and several to many other local guys have been running them for years with no problems.
A few of us locally are running the Jireh kit. The kits on Jireh are older units. They do not have the 3 dead rev's programmed as do the new kits so they fire on the first rev of the engine. This is perfect if you have a kick start.
"They say" that the three dead rev's result in less wear on the starter motor. I think this is not very significant.
