charging ???
hi again, ive had my 71 out riding a couple times and have had to replace the batt.,,??? are that i didnt know i needed to polerize the gen. so i have rode it but do not want to ride any more in fear that ill burn up the gen. what do i need to do to be sure im still safe? to polerize the gen. do i just hook up the + side of the batt. to the feild? then since ive started it do i need to take the regulater apart and make sure the contacts arnt stuck. i know it charges beacause the light gets bright when i reved the engine alittle.
also if the contacts in the reg. are stuck wouldnt the make the battery feed back to the gen when the bike is off maby why the battery was dead all the time in the first place,,,jared

Just do this:
Momentarily connect a jumper between the BAT terminal and the GEN terminal on the regulator after all wires have been connected and before starting engine.
Do this flashing exercise every time you have disconected any wires from the regulator or removed the battery.
I would not bother trying to check your regulator for burned points. It is probably OK. Just run the bike and see how the battery does. If it brightens lights when you rev it, that is a good sign the generator is doing OK......pg
