I recently bought a NOS 3.25 gal tank on eBay. I was a little tired of being the one who always had to call a gas stop when riding with friends, so I've been on the lookout for one of these old Harley accessory tanks to replace my 2.25 gal tank.
UPS delivered it the other day, and it was still in the original H-D shipping box with the installation kit (new petcock, fuel line, clamps, zip ties, etc.). A steal at less than $200, including shipping! I installed it this weekend and it looks pretty good. I was afraid it would ruin the looks of the bike, but it's well-proportioned - a bit longer and wider, but still has the traditional Sportster tank look. The pinstripe looks either red or orange, depending on how the sunlight hits it.
