Default New carb/Old motor
Anyone tried puttin a CV carb from a newer say '04 Sporty on a '70's Ironhead? Any mods needed to be done to the manifold or flanges? Thanks[/align]

Check how Affe has done it from his comments -> it works better than bendix or butterfly keihin.

yep. go to any decent Indy shop and ask for a plate that goes on the carb to mount to your stock manifold.

I bolted one on to my 61--did not do a thing to it--and it worked great. Went back to stock for other reasons, but at least in my application it was a winner.

Moon Wolf - Did you run the internal throttle cable with the CV?

i had a keihin on mine but just changed to an S&S

Put an 05 sporty cv on my 74. Press on mounting plate (used some jb weld as well) bought the plate on ebay. 48 pilot and 185 main jet. switched to the 05 throttle cable. Where the old throttle cable screws into the throttle I used a drill bit to drill out the threads. New cable slides in no threads. Switched to the newer choke/enricher cable. Had to make the choke cable mount hole a little bigger. Then I just got used to one kick starts and flawless running.

I just put a cv on and took off a super E and it runs so much better i got a 170 and 45 jets also turn the idle adjustment 4 1/2 out and it runs fast and smooth just need to seal the intake gaskets and exhaust then it will run even better just mocked up now. it was a easy install
