Okay. So I have a 76 sporty and a 77 basket case. I took the generator from the 77 and mounted it on the 76. It would not bolt on unless I turned it around so that the connections were pointing down. Its a 29975-65B Hitachi for Harley-Davidson. Will this be a problem
Sounds like the basket case 77 generator was disassembled and put back together. Might try removing the long bolts and turning the drive end cover 180 degrees.
No, its not a problem as long as your wires reach to the correct terminals. I have a Hitachi on my 83 and the terminals are on the bottom, too - thats just how they are made. Great generators, and they put out more amps than the older ones do.
