Well lets see...I got the front brakes working today. Charged up the battery and looked everything over like I was about to launch it off a carrier.. Started up (after I let a few cuss words out and realized I needed to turn to fuel on...Started the bike and attempted to set the idle (with the idle screw this time) the bike finally runs without me giving it throttle. It is back firing but it is running. I couldn't resist so I snuck in the house and grabbed my helmet (wife would kill me for trying to ride it without a seat and rear fender on it) and using my man brain I grabbed an old couch pillow to use as a seat...I mean what could go wrong...right? Threw the pillow on the bike, cracked the throttle, and stomped it into first. Away I went like a bat out of hell...If that bat back fired all the time...Passed the neighbors that have been talking about all the noise I have been making for the past couple of weeks. The guy on the corner just moved in and the look on his face as I passed his new house...well lets just say you had to be there. Down the block I flew like a back firing eagle. what a blast...would have been even more fun if I could have "remembered brake left shift right" but the hell with it I was smoking...smoking like a man who put WAAYYYY to much oil in the oil tank. It was lifting the lid on the oil tank and was all over the exhaust and everything under and everything behind the exhaust, well it as all over everything. Did I say the oil was all over the wife's couch pillow? well the look on her face as I pulled it up in front of the house...you think the guy in the corner house was pissed... It was worth it...I got to ride it and that was the first of many great rides to come.......I filled the tank up to the full mark on the dip stick before I took the ride is this too much oil? should I pull some out?
Sure it's better to take extra oil away, otherwise you already know what happen when you go for a ride.
I usually check oil level before ride, but if there is some oil missing, I always run engine about minute or two before I add any oil to tank. You learn your bike "habits" and know when oil is in correct lever before running it some time before checking again.
