backfiring....

Default backfiring....

1977 xl,1200 hd kheincarb was flooding gas dripping out of bowl and base of accelerating diaphram assembly.....i took carb apart cleaned reassembled ( ive done this before and problem was solved) adjusted pushrods, started bike...front cylinder immediatley backfired..blue flame coming out of drag pipe let idle soon rear cylinder backfired but not as much as front......rode down the street bike was real jumpy...any suggestions for solving this problem? thanks

sounds like your ignition timing's out,, or you've an air leak on the intake manifold,, or carb flange, making your mixture too lean,,

Might need a float adjustment, if gas is pouring out of it. Don't mess with the timing, but pull the points cover and make sure the timing cam is tight.

But once again, if gas is pouring out the carb, it's more than likely a carb problem and not a timing problem.

thanks il look into those suggestions. i called my buddy and asked his opinion he said the plugs fouled from being flooded and new ones will get me good to go...imma try this asap look at everything else and see where i stand....thanks

replaced the plugs gapped as specified she fired up and is runnin well....back on the road!!!!!!!!!!!
