Default forward control options

well. its not even the winter, and the bike is still only semi running... but ive already got some plans in my head for wintertime projects. one being pipes, and the other being the topic of this conversation, forward controls.

im 6'3" and from the riding ive done thus far on the bike, ive noticed my legs are a bit uncomfortable up near my face

ive heard quite a bit about some crappy forward control kits, id really like to stay away from these(as much as i like buying usless things)..

the bike is right side shift, and would like to keep it that way. here are 2 sets ive been looking at...

http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup...9-BD0BFF43D081

http://www.vtwinmfg.com/Catalog1/VTwinCatalogIndex1.htm
(enterpage 864 in page jump, and its part number 22-0700 middle right of page..)

now there is a pretty big price difference, as ive heard that the vtwinn ones are somewhere under 200 bucks. the jpcycles ones are 286..

now i dont mind paying for some extra quality, but i would really appreciate some personal experience with either of these brands before i waste 200 bucks, or worse, 286..

also, are there any other options that anyone has experience with? ive looked throught the old threads, and i cant really find much besides for some ebay sellers that no longer exist.

thanks a ton!

i own a 72 rigid ironhead. i can tell you this. i bought the same thing off ebay. same part number which came from v-twin but paid 1/2 the price. still in original pack. i to have yet to run mine but i did install mine already. height is an issue here too. me being lil over 6' the position for the shift and break was an issue for me. i also have big feet and always wear boots so i to went with forwards. now on my bike i have somewhat of a bend in my legs but seems comfy to just sit on and i to dont have my knees in my chest or my feet hanging 3/4 off the controls. i would keep watching ebay to see what you may come up with

I think as i look at both pictures they are the same...or very similar in contruction. There is a cheeper set out ther to keep away from but as far as thes go... I have them and the quality is pretty good. I got my set off e-bay to for about 150.00 i think. Heres my negatives... the shift leverarm on my set was not nurled...just had set screws, not good. So I got a Harley arm form the dealer and cut it down and it works great. Brake side... If you look at my bike its WAY low so the arm hanging down in this configuration is no good. I drag it everywhere! So I need to figure out a way to fix that....I doubt it would be an issue on a stock hieght bike. The contruction and fit is good though. Oh I also didnt like that you need to use Female pegs...less options... Thats my two cents

thanks for the info, and the points to look out for, but unfortunately all the posts on these forums about forward controlsrefer to ebay forward controlsand they alllink to a seller that no longer exists, or no longer sells forward controls, or doesnt link to anything.. so i really cant look at ebay and guess as to which ones are decent. thats why im staying away from ebay, unless anyone can give me some testimonials about a certain type purchased off of a certain seller who still sells them..

can u see what seller you purchased them from? that would be a big help...

and yes, they look pretty similar.. wish i could find my vtwinn book in order to get a better look... looks can be decieving though.. so hopefully someone has expierience with one or the other...

thanks again.

nice. thanks for the info. i have emails in to j&p as well as vtwinn asking them things such as male/female pedals, as well as knurling.. both things that i wouldnt have realized to ask about.

i also asked them for better pictures..

still looking for some more personal experience with different brands of forward controls..

do you have any pics of yours installed? im thinking that i dont have to worry about the low brake control. my front end is an 8 over, with no rake, so it sits a bit higher than it does stock though i plan on fixing that one day.

im hoping these style pegs are forward enough. the highway pegs i mock fit were actually ahead of the stock pipes. they seemed pretty good. hopefully it will still be comfy.

thanks for the help thus far tho jim.

In my gallery there are several pictures of my bike. They should give you a good idea where the peg sits in relation to the motor... If I was a bettin man I would say my pegs are NOT in front of where my stock pipes would be... more like right where they would be!

Not a problem sport; hope you get what you're looking for.
