A couple of you guys are talking about having Bendix carbs right now, so I thought I would alert you to a possible problem that can happen to a Bendix.
If you sometime in the future find that your bike will not run because it is fouling out spark plugs at highway speed with a rich black sooty coating inside the exhaust pipes, the cause of the problem is going to be a bad O ring inside the float chamber.
This O ring keeps raw fuel from entering the venturi of the carb. The fuel is forced to flow through the main jet into the venturi under normal operation.
When the O ring degrades, it allows raw fuel to seep past it with the resulting black sooty fouling of the spark plugs.
The fix is to go to Lowes plumbing dept and buy a 10 pack of #5 or #6 fawcett O rings for $1.29. Install one in the carb and you will have it running sweet again first time you fire it off.........pg
