Everything has been going smooth on the rebuild, a bit slow but smooth, till today. \\; So far I have started it up and let it run several times, riden to work one day (18 miles round trip), and gone around the lake once which is about 35-40 miles. It has been doing great with the occasional stutter in the low rpm (almost coasting) and twist the throttle slightly.
 \\;
I woke up this morning ready to take it to work again and found a dead battery. Put it on charge and came home and it does not want to crank up, or if it does, will only stay cranked for 2 - 3 more revolutions. It seems much more difficult to turn the engine over. \\; I'm waiting for the battery to charge again so I can start with the regular stuff, (spark, gas, etc.) but is there anything else I should look for in an engine I just did a top end for?

Just checked compression and I have NONE in the front cylinder. WTF??? I adjusted the pushrods according to the manual when I put it all back together and the cylinders are brand new with matching pistons. What else is there and what would cause it overnight?

my GUESS is that the rings are screwed.i dont know why or how.i have very limited experience on rebuilding engines but since you said its harder to turn over and no compression....seems like a ring is screwed to me....dont know why...but seems like it is...hope im wrong.good luck.
Did you follow any initial startup guidelines.sounds to me like one of the valves may have stuck open.Happened to me once.Very small piece of trash between the stem and guide hung it up.Blew my mind.I just flicked it off,the valve closed and it was fixed.You are lucky in that the front one is a snap to dissasemble vs the rear.
I'm guessing it was a piece of trash just as you expierienced, pitbull, because after I found that the pushrods were still correct, I check compression again and it was back up. I was really hoping it wasn't the rings. I guess messing with the pushrods and \\;spinning the engine back and forth broke it loose. Thanks guys.
