Default generator leaking oil

I noticed today that my generator is leaking a small ammount of oil. How is this possible? The band that wraps around the generator was loose, and the 2 screws at the end were loose, I tightened all 3 and it has only dripped once or twice since. Is there a seal that can go bad, I cant seem to find anything in the manual that talks about this. Bike is a 75 xlch. Another oil question. I noticed the chain getting really dry, I read the directions for cleaning the chain oiler orifice, but the picture is so blurred that I cant find what they are talking about. I pulled the kicker cover off, and there just isnt anything that looks like it would oil the chain. The manual says that it should through the 76 models.

Default RE: generator leaking oil

There is an armature oil seal around the armature shaft. This seal is located in the end of the generator next to the timing cover side.
Apparently oil has leaked past this seal and into the generator. There it will drain out the left end due to gravity and the bike parked on the kickstand leaning over.

Chain oiler......Here is a shot of mine (1971). The adjustment screw is the hex head on top of the body and the orifice lies under it..........pg

Is that seal something that needs to be changed asap? I cant imagine that its good for the generator. As far as the chain oiler goes, I dont have anything that comes even close to resembling that part. I guess during the rebuild, the previous owner didnt know what it was and just did away with it. I guess its not that big of a deal, I will just have to do it manualy. Thanks Pinion.
