The hole is on the left side of the engine, beneath the cylinders, exactly at the mid point of the two cylinders. It should contain a plug that requires a rather large Allen key type wrench. There is a bolt right above it.

Not sure about a 73, but on my 79 it's on the left side down on the case where the two cylinders bolt to the case. On mine, there's a plug that has to be removed and a clear plastic plug put in to keep the oil from pouring out.
