pinion i dont expect to change your mind but sometimes they make somthing a certain way and realize later they should have done things a little different.......i dont see how straining the oil is going to hurt anything.to me it would seem that little tiny bit of material that gets strained out by a filter if not having been filtered would have contributed to a little more wear the next time it flowed through....on and on...i dont see how its good to filter oil for a new bike and not for an old one....i also consider a sawzaw an essential tool for working on autos though
---i get your point on a destructing engine.nothing will save it if that is gonna happen.keeping general wear down though would be different in my opinion.-----i am sure you have heard that all before though.edit-ive got some relatives who are "restoring" an old vette......they have no intentions of pulling the oil pan....its been sitting for YEARS....first oil change in probably 20 yrs.---it kills me.

This rod is the worst of 8 that came out of my 15K mile Chevy. This engine had the oil and filter changed every 3K miles. See what can happen even with a regular oil change? I am baffled by what happened with this. All of the rods and mains were worn out.
And like I had said, a lot of people do not agree with me about Sporty oil filters. You guys are probably correct in saying a filter is better........... pg
laugh it you will but i have been thinking about this since yesterday.i have not come to any conclusion.
However, I believe that eventually the filter would clog up and no longer let oil pass through it.
Result........ not good. But then the result from not changing to oil is not a good one either.
An automobile engine has a bypass at the oil filter. If the filter clogs, the oil is pumped around the filter and the engine still gets oil. Dirty oil yes, but at least it is oil................ pg
Modern can type filters have so good filtering, they block ľm particles and they clogs even easier. You can't put EVO filter to TC engine...
There is some can type filters that are "desinged" to old engines, they are not so "good" but better for this use, particles that they filters are alike 100ľm.
Because harley uses roller/needle bearings in vital parts, it's better to have oil flowing than "over filtering" it. Generally filtering isn't need to be so good, with roller/needle bearing than journal bearing. It always good to have clean oil even if you need to change it more often.
