Default Left side shift lever issues

I have a 76 ironhead with the lefts side shift lever. I cannot get the shift lever positioned so I can up shift. It catches on the crank case so i bent it out. then it hit the foot peg mount. I notched the lever to make room for the peg mount but still cant get higher than second gear. The Harley parts book show the same lever as oem and it has the original case. any body know wtf?

Default RE: Left side shift lever issues

A lot of people with '75-'76 Ironheads got rid of the left side linkeages and converted them to right-side shift because of the crappy design. Mine included.
