Does anyone know if there is someone making a longer shift lever to fit a sporty? It is a little hard to get my toe under the stock one. Would like to find a longer peg too.
I'm not sure about a longer shift lever, but you can adjust the height of the shift lever peg using the adjustable coupling in the shift lever linkage.
Better yet, anybody make a dual peg lever like the Heritage Softail has? You know, so you can shift up by either toeing under the front lever OR kicking down on the rear lever with your heel?
Im not trying to be a smarta$$. That was my main complaint to my instructor when i took the ridersedge class at the local stealership. Told him that my foot wouldnt fit under the shifter on the lil buell dumper we were learning on. He told me that experinced riders dont put their toe under the shifter, they use the side of the boot to shift. Just his .02's worth.
Try a lever from a different model or year.As long as the spline matches up you can use just about anything as long as there are no obstuctions.Go check some out a the local shop or dealer and see if another year or model will work. The '86-'90 stock shift leveris about an inch longer and shouldwork with'91-up mid controls. The spline definately matches on that one.You can find them on ebay for $12.00-$15.00.
What about the double yoked shifter, anybody know of which ones fit the Sporty? I've seen Sportieswith them,so I know someone out there must make them...

Your instructor was right...it's almost like a quick "nudge" with the edge of my boot.
BUT...if it were me...I'd try one for a BT...maybe a softail or somethin...it WILL fit your internal shifter arm and it's a bit longer I believe.
Try Waltersworkshop.com or bubbasbrake.com. They sell extended length shift levers for softails and baggers. You just need to confirm if the Sportie shift spline diameter is the same as mentioned above.
I had a guy fail the MSF course when I was an instructor because he wore these huge, large toed, combattype boots that Harleysellsand had alot of problems with shifting. I think (and so does he) that if he had worn the more conventional style boot he would not have had as much of a problem.
Had the same problem myself, and looked around for something longer. Someone on here mentioned that you could pull lever off and put it back on a little higher, which I did. And boot fits good and just have to tap it to downshift.
