Primary covers
I found a really nice chrome primary cover I would like to buy at a local cycle salvage yard off a 1970 XLH with electric start. Does anyone know if it will fit or can be modified to fit my 1973 XLCH with electric start?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
Sorry to report.....a 1970 primary cover will not work on any Sportster newer than 1970. This was the last year of the 'dry clutch'. In 1971 a new wet clutch was used. The clutch cable goes into the primary case on 1971 and newer.
1970 and earlier had the clutch cable going into the sprocket cover (R/H side) where the clutch worm was located. Two different animals in this respect...............piniongear

ORIGINAL: CycloneRacer
Thanks, Blake! Oh well, I kind of figured that was the "case"
I have both my parents out of the hospital, the kid graduated HS now it's time for me to get back on the ironhead!!!
