Some new stuff...
First, I cut about 1/2 pound of unneeded steel off the chain guard - the big safety chunk that covered the sprocket from the 12 o'clock to the 3 o'clock position.

I then mounted a new rear tire. This one's a Continental "retro" sport tire. You can also see that I cleaned the rear sprocket and chain...

Next, I bought some hot orange performance plug wires.

I found a stock-style crossover cover with a carb heat shield as part of it - been looking for one for quite a while.

And finally, I dug out the old SE trim and put it on my modded air cleaner cover. I think the dull aluminum looks kind of racy.
So, where did you find that crossover cover? Rare part indeed. I saw only one in six years of eBaying for my 1980 - of course i got it, along with stock headers and cycle shack muff's.
So, if it wer'nt broke how *** ya fixed it!
The crossover cover is a repro from Debrix Cycles - seems to be a well made part. You're right, some of the stuff I do isn't to fix what's broke, so I don't follow my own advice. I do know what I'm doing, though, so I rarely make anything worse...
