For a while I've been contemplating a new A/c cover on my superglide...I found a cut stock A/c cover on the marketplace here. My plan was to tape off the chrome and paint the "96CI Softtail", but then I got to looking at it....that inner ring comes off! I had just a painted CD and used that, but I got a rain cover (got tired of picking bugs out of the exposed filter), and the CD wasn't gonna hold up.
Heres what it looked like when he sent it:
I got it today and took the ring off, I forgot to take an immediate pic. This is it after some polishing:
Fully polished:
Painted the ring:
Now I have an option:
And together:
I'm super happy how it turned out, and I need to figure out a way to secure the ring back onto the chrome piece; I couldn't get the old tape off of it without mangling the damn thing all to hell. I'm thinking if I cut up some two-sided tape that should work pretty well...or I may just opt for gorilla glue or something.
I'll post some pics of it on the bike later when I get a chance to clean it up. I live in an apt complex and the lazy landlord doesn't like to hook up the spigot until mid-June.
Looks clean, nice job! Props to you guys doing mods out of apartments, I've been there done that, the struggle is real.
The shittiest part is in the lease it says, "no changing oil or working on your vehicles."
So during the winter if I wanna go work on my ****, I have to turn the propane heater on next to me and close the door. I couldn't brain cells how many tell you I've killed doing this.
Other than that; I usually just wait til the weekend and do a quick scan of the perimeter for the landlord's truck.
Got about two more years renting, but we're moving to a different complex here in about a month and half.
Looks good! I think some double stick tape will work just fine.
You could solve the "landlord" problem by buying a house...you did sign a lease agreeing to not work on your stuff...
I could buy a house....but right now our debt to income ratio isn't good enough to not get a house in the ghetto...we almost got one back in November, but we both had the same concerns about it...

Do you ever want to take it off again? If not go for the Gorilla glue. If you do then the tape isn't too hard to clean up.
