What to do??..
I assume you think this because you can see no oil externally.
Fair enough.
It enough oil is coming out the breather to an extent that after only a few hundred miles the level in down enough to concern you, how is it that there is no visible evidence of this?
Where is your breather routed to?
Does it look like oil has been "pouring" out there?
A common complaint on HD bikes of any model is oil mess from the breather. Enough mess to look terrible, and annoy, but not cause a concern regarding oil loss.
How is it you are presumed to have the opposite?
As in, no mess, but the oil is still coming out there, and enough for an oil loss concern issue.
Use your common sense. If you can see no evidence whatsoever of oil on the outside of the engine, especially near the breather, then it is going somewhere else.
And failing the very unlikely scenario that is is in the transmission, that somewhere else is out the exhaust pipe.
I understand its burning up and blowing out the exhaust, but not at any big rate that i can see it..exhaust looks fine as well. i pulled it to check out the insides at jug end and nothing major there.
SO all in all, yes..its burning some oil. i keep an eye on it, and keep on riding it. maybe ill fix it this winter, or maybe ill keep riding, and checking oil untill i can fix it.
As for the breather issue, honestly, no..its not messy, or anything of that matter. Maybe its cuz i have it pointed upwards, i dunno. ALthough, with what you said about typical harley complaints..i have noticed how most harleys do leak a little bit out of breather, but mine dosent? I do see that as odd, but never really was to concerned about it..just figued maybe it was because of how i got it mounted?
It may be that the oil slinger on the end of the generator is working very well also - it separates the oil from the air so that only [well, mostly] air goes out and the oil stays in.
The 11:00 fitting works better than the 6:00 one in this regard.
Adding another breather at 6:00 is entirely optional. I did it on my 1980, as did another forum member [on an '81 as i recall].

As for checking to make sure breather is breathing, it is. i checked it for that before i put auxiliary filter on it.
My unsolicited advice? Leave the neon to the crotch rocket folks and stop worrying about what chicks think.
Strictly my opinion though, do whatever makes you happy.

I did it for more of a visibility issue. You know as well as everyone else does, bikes dont get noticed while riding, especially during the dark hours. so a little color to make it more noticable is ok by me.
As for me being a nice guy..yah i think i usually am...just dont ask my ole lady what she thinks..hahahha I'm sure we'd both get an ear pounding!
