Default Got a Leak !

Ok so my bike has always leaked oil a little. No big deal to me its a rat with no paint so a little oil didn't worry me . Now the puddles are getting bigger. I have been riding this bike for 2 years with little issues so I don't want to tear it down if I don't have to. After a ride of about an hour I get a puddle about the size of a silver dollar in about 30 min time. If I clean that up and wait an hour I have a puddle about the size of a quarter. Is that a lot compared to other rides like my 78 ? This is my first Harley and of course have heard that all old bikes leak some. Which I know now isn't true but anyway ...I got a leaker.

Any advice would be cool.

I use the paper towel method. First i thoroughly clean up the suspected areas [heavens, on a rat bike you do not want the whole thing clean, eh!]. Then i stuff some paper towels in the suspected areas; then i either let it sit overnight or ride or both, depending.

Then i examine the p towels, and stuff some in more accurately. Sometimes i need to go thru this a few times until i know exactly where is the leak.

Here are some examples. This is a real girl's bike.

This was the worst leak imaginable - the seam between the cases, hidden behind the top of the lower rear motor mount. Required stripping and removing the entire engine to see it, and splitting the cases to fix it.

The amount doesn't seem like much but oil leaks are annoying. These old girls do leak. Mick's idea is a good one. I might try going for a ride then parking the bike somewhere clean and laying underneath it for a while with a flashlight to find the leak. Make sure it's been previously cleaned though. Will make it easier to find the leak.
