Default Ironhead intake question.. NOW WITH PICTURES!

Ok so i started my CV swap..ordered an ebay carb adapter, its wrong..(my luck is AWESOME!!)

Here's my question, Can i use the CV intake (that came on the CV and 91 883 bike that it was pullled from) on my ironhead? OR is it totally to small?

Just figured it'd prevent me from spendin more money on another adapter, and having to wait till next week to get er mounted.

Have you seen this thread? Does not answer your question but it may help. This guy is using what i believe is called the Mikuni adapter, which is the one i would use if i were doing this ...

Yah issue with mine is the dang bolt hole pattern doesn not match! carb goes in, bolt pattern is off though..SUCKS!! thats why i was wanering. the closest shop that has one is like 30 miles from here. might have to pack up the kid N go chekc it out.

Thanks mick, btw, i see your a member there! haha. That guy did a nice swap. Dont particularly care for the where he put the VOES, but, to each is they're own! (then there's me who runs mechanical advance..for now..lol)

Thanks again!

i have used that adaptor and had very bad luck with it! its flimsy, fuel puddled in the intake, the best way is to find a mikuni branch intake and run a mikuni 40-mm adaptor to it , much less chance of leaks! you still have to support the carb!

ok well installing it! taking pictures too! found an adapter at the shop i mentioned earlier. Problem i ran into now is, my fuel petcock location! it interferes with the damn throttle cable bracket.. SO..either imma try to spin it, OR raise the tank?! One or the other..damn! lol

Currently Rebuilding my petcock as i type. lol

You can get petcocks in left, straight down, and right.

Petcock is rebuilt and re-installed. it needed twisted a little bit to clear, throttle cable then was an issue, i had to Cut the metal spirals, ever so carefully, then stretch it, and unloop the cable to get it off the strand/led ball end. But its on, mounted, opens entirely and looks pretty badass!! sticks out pretty far, but i like it! it looks MEAN!! lol

once again, i took more pictures, but ill be sure to post them either tonight or tomorrow. Going to a haunted scary spectacular very soon so my play time came to and end..

NEXT will be mounting my old school bendix a/c to it..which..looks like it might be interesting....haha. No where NEAR big enough opening, NOR do any of the holes line up, therefore, i may end up cutting a big hole in it, and welding something to the back in order to allow for proper Mounting! ...or buy a badass lookin A/C to match my sweet setup!! Muhahahahahahahah!! i love building N tinkering with stuff!

Here's what i've got so far..

My first objective yesterday was to warm up the garage, seeing as it had been only 28 degree's the night before..

After that, it was onto mounting the adapter, to the manifold. i replaced intake seals with new ones, but forgot those pictures..oops. So here's the new gasket i made and the intake i used..

After carb was mounted to intake, and intake was installed..i had to stop and drool over its appearance.. (which i think is just plain bitchin, how it sticks out from the top view!!)

now its time to start hookin up the essentials..but this post only allows 5 pics at a time so i gotta start another! Check below for more!!

Next Was the throttle cable hookup. At first, i had to take petcock off, and clean it and then Turn it so that throttle cable would clear, and so that petcock was able to be turned to ON postioin without interfering with carb brackets. Once that was achieved, the cable then required a little cutting to get it to seat properly. Problem i ran into was it needed some of the "Coiling" to be cut off in order for ball end to reach its proper location. i did this buy peeling off the wrapping and then using a dremel Cut off wheel to CAREFULLY cut the coiling off.

After Cutting throttle cable, my fun pretty much came to an end..had stuff to do. Next on the list of to do is either, (A.) use my existing A/C buy fabbing up an adapter, or (B.) Getting a new one that'll fit the CV carb.
Either way, ill be using the brackets on the heads to make my mouting setup, RIGID, thus preventing carb "Fall off" at cruising speeds! lol

Brackets seen here..

Thats all i've got for now.. imma work on A/C setup today!
ill keep yinz up to speed with progress!!

How are you making the seal on the carb-to-adapter connection?
