Hello,
I am wanting to install front and rear turn signals on a 72 sportster that does not have any turn signals at all. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a kit that comes with everything needed(lights, harness, switch and etc.)? Thank you for any help!
Here's a wire diagram for turn signals. You can get the flasher at WalMart or any auto supply. Get the two-terminal one not a heavy duty one. It does not matter which terminal connects to 12 volts.
If you want to use LEDs i believe you will need an electronic flasher. You may need a load equalizer - i think not with the electronic flasher but i am unsure.
There should be a 15 amp circuit breaker between the battery +ve and the flasher.
The turn signal units are usually grounded to the frame or handlebar or whatever they are mounted, otherwise you would need to run a ground wire from each to frame.
The lights, mounting & wiring don't hang me up but what do you use for a turn signal switch and where do you put it? The '72 bars are just soooo clean.
Has to be near one of your thumbs; has to be weatherproof. I suggest [partially?] under the handle bar so it does not show. Look thru J&P Cycles catalog for ideas. J&P 370-014 OEM 70058-50B would be a good choice as it was used on early Sportsters. Might be hard to find something you really like.
