Default Horn Relocation

I like the looks of the Ironhead motor, so when i got my bike i wanted the horn to be gone from the left side of the engine, here is what i did.

1- I unbolted the horn mounting bracket.
2- I unbolted the horn/choke bracket from the key switch bracket.
3- I put back the key switch choke bracket on it original location.
4- Take out the top bolt from the REGULATOR mounted in front of the frame.

Now the horn bracket and horn can be placed with a slightly longer bolt on the frame atached with the regulator bolt, it provides a cleaner look for the side of the motor, and also looks better in front of the frame.

5- The wire for the horn can be taken out of the wire protector and its long enough for the modification without cutting it,
6- If one day you want the bike back to original just unbolt and put it all back.

Not a bad little mod.

I rather like the traditional setup myself and I was kind of pissed when I bought my 2007 and it didn't have the cowbell horn. It had the little ee ee horn mounted where you put your cowbell. So I bought horn kit from HD and stuck it on. That horn was standard equip on all of the Ironheads I think, and now it is only included on certain Sportster models.

I agree with you though, it does make for a cleaner look and I like the fact that you can take it back to original in a snap if you like. Good job.

I stuck my oil filter out front because mine didn't come with one and I couldn't find anywhere else to put it where it wouldn't get banged (by a leg) or fit. However, I'm going to try and run this season without a battery(trying a different regulator) and I'm hoping I can stick my filter under the oil bag (like in your's Neal) without the battery I have room (I think).

Default Horn relocation.

First of all Scott, post some darn photos of your ride, i like to get a basket case one day and hardtail it and wide glide it.

You know i think the remote filter on our model is so cool, it gives me the feeling of real mechanical stuff, but my factory filter mounting is awsome on everything, and i dont think is that messy to change oil either

The bike in my signature is the most recent photo of my ride. The album in my profile '2010 build' (I think that is what it is called, I haven't looked since I uploaded it) is my last rebuild of my bike.
I do need to relocate my filter because my lines are running under the bike and I have a knot of lines out front on my bike and it looks like crap.

I dint think about it, the oiling system on this bikes could make it without an oil filter, hmmmm. I have one so i wont change it.

I like to do a hardtail like yours Scott, i would only change the oil tank and seat.

How did you do a wide glide, i think the fork legs are stock, what kit did you use?

I went with Pinion's idea on the lack of an oil filter on my 1973 XLCH. When I resored it, I wanted to stay as original as I could. The only things not stock are the pipes and paint. Besides, keeping the oil changed sure isn't hard to do.

The wide glide is off an old servi car. A swap meet special I picked up. The original frontend was wrecked before I bought it so I had to replace it. I put in longer tubes than the ones it came with. It also has an adjustable rake in the trees. I found a pic with the same front end right here at this form:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/attac...-car-4-500.jpg

I kept the broken front end...tell great stories with it when I drink.

My rear swing arm was also wrecked (the bike was in an accident)...so, I cut it up and made a hardtail.

The seat (swap meet again) is a late '60s original...I'm old school hippy...stuck in the '60s...I like the look of this old stuff.
I'm watching for an old springer front end with twisties...they look good on old choppers.
