So I have been looking for an Ironhead since this spring. I am new to IH's, but not bikes. Everything I look at is oddly modified or fairly hacked up. Well I found a 1985 XLS Roadster in pretty much stock condition an hour and a half away from me. I figure it is the last year of the Ironheads, and I believe there were just a little more than 600 of this model made. I have some kind of a compulsion to wrench on stuff, so this should satisfy that urge. Now it is in my garage waiting to get a general checkup and new fluids. It has been ridden regularly and maintained, so I am hoping for only a few suprises. I have been reading alot of technical stuff on this forum and others. It will probably make more sense now that I have the bike to look at. I am sure that I will have more questions than answers here for a while.
I think I attached a pic I took with my cell on the way home.
Thanks for the numbers IM. I have the service manuals for almost everything I own. I guess I need more now. You would think that in this information age someone would have a PDF version you could download for free floating around. I have them for my old Hondas. Anyone ever seen one floating around on the WWW??
I just ordered them. That way I know I am getting the good stuff
But if I was able to save the 100-200 bucks on the manuals I could spend it getting my oil changed on my EG at the dealership (It costs more because they care)
