Hey guys glad I found this site! I just got an ol school chopper, the engine is a 71' Iron Head that was rebuilt with mild cams 2 years ago, when I kick er over the oil pukes out of a tube underneath the bike. I have notices a bit of oil before but this time it was quite a lot. I am also having issues with it going into first gear. I was told the clutch was relatively new when I bought it and have always noticed an issue. Finding 1st is a real problem, when it is not started it will go into first but when it's started it won't???????
you really need to start your own thread, it gets a little confusing when you jump another thread like this, when you say it wont go into gear do you mean while its running? can you put it in gear, hold the clutch and kick it over? prob just a clutch adjustment ( the adjustment is a many step procedure i hope you have a fsn?) as far as the oil goes do you notice it to be worse after it sits for a few days? it is called wet sumping, bets way to fix that problem its to start it every couple days, or replace the oil check valve, some guys can take them apart and clean them
... when I kick er over the oil pukes out of a tube underneath the bike. ... I am also having issues with it going into first gear. ...
Like ShepDog says, the oil from the crankcase breather tube is called wet sumping. Oil is leaking past the check ball in the oil pump. If you Google wet sumping harley you should get lots of info.
Adjusting the clutch is a many-stepped procedure. You need the Factory Service Manual 99484-78. You should also have the factory parts catalog 99451-78B. You can get these at any HD dealer, various eBay sellers, indie motorcycle shops, J&P Cycles etc.
