Default New guy, Older bike

A coworker has a 67 Sportster that he may sell me.

I know this bike has been sitting for about 10 years. He said the reason he stopped riding it was 2 fold. He had/has 3 other Harleys to ride, and this one started having some carb issues. He has a new carb for it, but hasn't put it on (been on the shelf for 8 years)

Other than going through the carb before I install it, 2 new tires, change oil and brake fluid, probably plugs...

It has had oil the whole time, and hasn't leaked...

It's a kick only bike with a Magneto.

He has had the bike a long time and said when he rode it all the time, every winter he would pull it down, and rebuild it as needed. He thinks it's .020 right now.

Anything else I should watch for? (other than the infamous Starter "kick back")

From the sound of it and because it has a magneto rather than a distributor, it may well be an XLCH model rather than an XLH.

The CH was the sportier model between the two and is a highly desirable machine, especially if it is in mostly original condition and has not been chopped.

There are going to be a number of issues besides the carb if you buy this bike, and the time to go over that is after you have bought it.
If he guarantees it ran without problems (except the carb) the last time he rode it then you can trust that he is telling the truth. And with that I would say buy it now while it is still available, if the price suits you.
On the open market and priced right this bike will not last very long before it is snapped up by someone.

Sorry it's been so long since I've been back! Thanks for the replies! I may try to pick the bike up again this spring if money permits. Right now I have another project that I'm working on....
